Job description

We are looking for cheesemongers and, most importantly, food lovers to join our retail team on a part-time basis for 2 or 3 days a week.

There are multiple positions available and there is some flexibility on the number of days, just specify your availability in your cover letter. Your shifts would include a set Saturday with others on a Sunday or mid-week. There will also be many opportunities to take on extra shifts across our busiest periods of the year. It would be a huge bonus if prospective candidates can work half days as part of their working week.

We know its over 10 months away but availability in the run-up to Christmas is essential; we ask that part-time mongers chip in with a full 5 days to help with the festive madness! Your training will take place at either our East Dulwich or Borough Market site and you will likely be retailing across more than one of our sites over the year.

An ideal candidate will not only be comfortable in a customer-facing role but also even more comfortable with the idea of eating and learning about cheese each day. We believe experience behind the cheese counter is the best way to learn about the production, selection, and maturation of the products we work with. Through this, you'll become confident in pinpointing which cheeses should be going home with each of our lovely customers.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Helping to create an inviting, positive and safe shopping experience
  • Speaking enthusiastically and honestly about our entire range in order to match the right cheese with our lovely customers
  • Adhering to strict health and safety procedures
  • Helping to drive our retail sites towards their weekly sales targets
  • Tasting cheese daily in order to accurately gauge its flavour profile and condition

We offer a London Living Wage salary: £30,000 per annum pro-rata (£18,050 for 3 days p/w OR £12,000 for 2 days p/w)

There is comprehensive training and good opportunities for progression for an individual who can see a long future in the cheese world. Staff tastings, producer visits, and cheese on tap are some of the benefits of this role.

This role suits an individual looking to balance work in the food industry and other interests. So, if you're a cheese lover with the potential to thrive in a bustling retail environment then please apply using the form below. Make sure to include a cover letter.

We've extended the deadline for applications to Sunday 19th May, though we will look to reply to applications as and when we receive them.

Please call 020 706 469 12 if you have any questions.
