Job description

Forest Garden Manager Specification

  • Status: Freelance
  • Contract: Fixed term 12 months commencing in July 2024.
  • Hours: based on 12 x Sundays a year leading volunteer sessions at ELL 10-3pm (5hrs) and 30hrs of planning time.
  • Remuneration: total 90 hrs x £20 per hour = Total fee of £1800.00 for fixed term
  • Location: Primarily ELL site Invoicing periods:
  • TBA Other: The distribution of Sundays through the year is to be agreed between the successful candidate and ELL directors. Attendance at occasional meetings and events will also be required as part of the planning fee.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead 12 x Sunday sessions a year for volunteers, once a month between February and November (when the garden is open) 10am-3pm
  2. Lead on garden developments and site maintenance with the support of the Project Coordinator
  3. Lead the update of a seasonal garden plan, planning, propagating, pruning, planting, harvesting, increasing yield and diversity of plants and general garden jobs and maintenance.
  4. Increase volunteers’ awareness and knowledge of Forest Gardening by teaching pruning, propagating, planting sowing and maintenance.
  5. Increase growing of plants for plant sales 4 x a year.
  6. Lead the maintenance of ELL’s areas in Finsbury Park, the Orchard, Shop window, showcase bed as agreed with Haringey Council and the Project Coordinator.

Edible Landscapes London (ELL) is a not-for-profit community education project located within Haringey’s Finsbury Park. We specialise in Forest Gardening – a low maintenance food growing design system that mimics natural ecosystems using a variety of perennial plants and trees and is beneficial to humans and wildlife. We pioneered the first accredited course in Forest Gardening and have since trained hundreds of students in plant propagation, permaculture and other related subjects.
