Job description

The post-holder will help us build new audiences and raise awareness of our brand. You will get out and about around the museum and create high-quality online content that engages people with the museum’s mission. You will populate channels for communications, including the website and social media. You will assist with day-to-day marketing and communications, including keeping our CRM system and website up to date, assisting with data and analytics, and designing content for print and digital formats.

You will also work with the wider local creative community as part of Stowmarket Culture Group, creating and distributing an e-newsletter showcasing local venues and events along with maintaining the website and growing the Group’s online presence.  It is anticipated that this will take up a day a week.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who is creative, innovative and enthusiastic about the mission of the museum and the town of Stowmarket and its cultural organisations. You need to be confident using social media and have good IT skills. You should care about fact-checking and accuracy and have good customer service skills. You will be comfortable taking photos, creating content (including video) and you will have basic desktop publishing/design skills. We expect you to come to the museum as you will be collecting content on site, but there is flexibility around days and times.

There may also opportunities for additional casual work at events and in our learning programme, particularly during school holidays, which can be discussed at interview.

Main duties:

  1. Create and select high-quality content and respond to audiences on our social media channels (e.g. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook), other relevant platforms (such as Google reviews, TripAdvisor, Wikipedia) and on our website. Work with the Digital Officer to schedule content around upcoming events, exhibitions and activities.
  2. Help to maintain and update the museum website and our CRM system with our changing programme of activities and events.
  3. Design content for marketing campaigns and update the museum’s listings on external websites.
  4. Create and distribute Stowmarket Culture Group’s e-newsletter and maintain its website; build the membership database through attending events and online methods.
  5. Collect and use data and analytics about audiences to inform decision-making. Collate the data from our online and onsite visitor survey.
  6. Support the Visitor Services & Marketing Manager and Digital Officer in the preparation, coordination and distribution of digital and printed publicity and marketing materials.
  7. Answer the phone and respond to visitor questions.
  8. Support with the delivery of museum events, learning and fundraising.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 27 May 2024 at midnight. Interviews will take place on 5 June.
