Job description

We are seeking a Food Production Manager to join our dynamic early-stage food innovation start-up focused on food waste and sustainability. As a hands-on member of a small, collaborative team, you will not only manage the day-to-day operations of our production kitchen but also actively participate in food production and product creation. The role requires someone who is passionate about food, process improvement, and delivering high-quality products.

The Food Production Manager will be responsible for overseeing production schedules, optimising production processes, and maintaining quality control while ensuring all work adheres to strict food safety standards.

We are a small team and so are looking for someone who is a hands-on, self starter. Due to our location, you will need your own transport.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the production kitchen.
  • Actively participate in food production and product creation alongside the team.
  • Manage and improve production processes to increase and optimise efficiency, whilst reducing waste.
  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety and hygiene protocols (SALSA) and lead relevant training for the team.
  • Lead and mentor the production team, ensuring they are fully supported and trained to deliver high-quality output.
  • Manage inventory levels, ensuring that stock is properly maintained and production materials are always available.
  • Work closely with the team and founder on research and development projects.
  • Maintain all production-related records, including quality control, safety audits, and process improvements.
  • Continuously explore new opportunities to improve productivity and reduce costs.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in food production or manufacturing, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Hands-on experience with food production and a passion for food innovation.
  • Solid understanding of food safety standards and quality control processes (SALSA certification is desirable).
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on process improvement.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team.
  • Experience managing inventory and production schedules effectively.
