Job description

Community Chef - Homegrown Impact

We are looking for a very special person who is passionate about food, and keen to pass on this passion to both the community and candidates considering the hospitality industry as a career.  You will have the skills to teach, guide and support people in that journey, teaching how to plan and prepare healthy, nutritious meals, methods of batch cooking, storing and preserving food and budgeting skills.  You will have experience in the field of hospitality to pass on catering and service skills during the life of the Homegrown Opportunities programme.

The role is initially for 17.5 hours per week, salary £15,000 per annum. This role is for a fixed term of 12 months, although we aim to seek opportunities for funding to extend the programme.

We offer 25 days a year holiday in addition to Bank Holidays.

This post requires a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

Job Purpose

The Community Chef will be a key member of the Healthy Living Centre Dartford project team, delivering a programme to plan, prepare and cook healthy food and share skills with others. Working from the sites mentioned, you will provide opportunities for training, volunteering and work experience, with the overall aim to provide an insight and practical experience in catering and hospitality which will give people the basic skills and confidence to enter the field of hospitality in a variety of roles. This initiative is twinned with our gardening and horticulture skills opportunities.

To be successful in this role, you will need a passion for, and extensive experience with, food and cooking. You will have experience of teaching and sharing skills with beginners to enable us to grow our vision of a place for people to come together to grow, cook, eat and learn.  Other team members involved with this project are our award-winning community gardener, volunteers, the centre coordinator and the activity and engagement coordinator.
