Job description

Vegetable/Kitchen Gardener part-time

Location: Henley on Thames

Qualifications: Level 1 or 2 RHS

About Us:

We are recruiting for a private Farm, a passionate and experienced Vegetable Gardener. This role is ideal for individuals with a Level 1 or 2 RHS qualification who have a love for gardening and growing organic fruits and vegetable.

Responsibilities:

1. Plant Cultivation and Maintenance:

  • Propagate, plant, and nurture a range of edible and flowering plants and foliage.
  • Implement and manage plant care routines, including watering, fertilising, pruning, and pest control.
  • Monitor plant health and growth, making adjustments to care routines as necessary to ensure optimal growth and bloom quality.
  • Manage and optimise the greenhouse environment, including temperature, humidity, and light conditions

2. Production:

  • Plan and coordinate the cultivation of edibles and cut flowers to ensure a continuous supply.
  • Harvest edibles and flowers at their peak to ensure freshness and quality.

3.Greenhouse Operations:

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the greenhouse, including workspaces, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist in the setup and maintenance of irrigation systems and other greenhouse infrastructure.
  • Manage inventory of seeds, fertilisers, and other horticultural supplies.
  • Keep detailed records of plant care, growth rates, and harvest yields.

4. Sustainability and Best Practices:

  • Implement sustainable gardening practices, such as composting and organic pest management.
  • Stay updated on the latest horticultural trends and best practices in greenhouse management and edibles / cut flower production.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Formal education or certification in horticulture, botany, or a related field is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a greenhouse, nursery, or a similar environment
  • Experience in edibles and cut flower production or related areas is highly desirable.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of plant care, particularly in a controlled environment.
  • Ability to recognize and treat common plant diseases and pests.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.

May include weekend and bank holiday work depending on the season and crop needs.

Drivers licence required
