Job description

Job Opportunity: Farm Advisory Role – Agroecological Transition

With the growing demand for farm advice to support the transition to more agroecological production systems, I am looking for someone interested in moving into the advisory sector to work alongside me in my small but dynamic business. This is a multi-faceted role that will evolve over time, offering the opportunity to grow with the business and contribute to expanding much-needed advisory services that support regenerative farming systems.

About the Business:

The business currently covers a diverse range of activities, including:

  • On-farm advice and consultancy.
  • Soil and plant testing.
  • SFI (Sustainable Farming Incentive) scheme planning.
  • Farm assurance and certification support.
  • Coordinating on-farm trials.
  • Collaborating with NGOs and Government bodies.

Key Responsibilities:

The role will involve working closely with me on a variety of tasks, including:

  • Advising farmers across the spectrum – from conventional to organic systems.
  • Conducting soil and plant sampling.
  • Monitoring farm systems and setting up farm assurance protocols.
  • Planning and delivering SFI schemes on farms.
  • Organizing and potentially leading farm-scale trials and on-farm events.
  • (Potential future opportunity) Selling products or services to farmers.

Opportunities and Growth:

This is a flexible role with the potential to be part-time or full-time. It will involve a combination of home-based work and on-farm visits across North Yorkshire. The position could be self-employed, offering considerable flexibility and independence.

If the role develops as envisioned, there is the potential for the successful candidate to become a part-owner of the business, making this a unique opportunity to shape and grow with a forward-thinking enterprise.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A positive attitude and an open-minded approach – just as important as experience in advisory work.
  • A good understanding of farming and a passion for supporting sustainable, regenerative systems.
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic, evolving role that involves diverse tasks and responsibilities.

Location:

  • North Yorkshire – applicants should be prepared to travel locally for on-farm visits.

If you are enthusiastic about regenerative agriculture and are looking to transition into the advisory sector, please get in touch. This is an exciting opportunity to grow within a developing field and make a meaningful impact on the future of farming.
