Job description

The Market Garden at Borde Hill, West Sussex, is a new biodynamic project in its second season, located on a 10 acre site, currently cropping on half an acre with 3.5 acres in green manure for when we are ready to expand.  The principal purpose of the Market Garden is to grow produce for a new field to fork restaurant and cafe due to open later this year, with emphasis on sustainability and seaonality.  In the meantime, produce is sold via wholesalers to restaurants in London.

You will be working with our current part-time Grower, and joining the project at an exciting time, gaining experience of both setting up and expanding a Market Garden, as well as general growing duties.  You will organise all aspects of vegetable production from seed to harvest and tasks will include:

  • Propagation
  • Planting
  • Harvesting
  • Packing
  • Weeding
  • Pruning
  • Bed preparation
  • Working in polytunnels

The right candidate will feel confident working alone, as well as in a team to include volunteers, and will understand the importance of working quickly and efficiently.

Your passion for organic/biodynamic growing will be key in ensuring the plants are cared for and developed to grow delicious seasonal produce to be eaten on site or sold wholesale.
