Job description
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Retail & Events Manager to oversee the operations of our farm shop and events space. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail management, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for food and customer service. This role involves managing stock, suppliers, staff, events, and customer relations while driving business growth in line with our vision.
Key Responsibilities: Farm Shop Management
Stock & Supplier Management:
- Order and manage stock from various suppliers, ensuring availability and quality.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and margins, ensuring a 40% profit margin across the shop.
- Conduct an annual stock take at the end of March
EPOS System Management:
- Update and maintain pricing, costs, and sales information.
- Ensure accurate recording of financials and transactions.
Financial & Administrative Duties:
- Process invoices and liaise with accountants for bookkeeping.
- Handle staff and supplier payments.
- Manage waste, compost, and overall shop maintenance.
Due Diligence & Compliance:
- Maintain hygiene certification and temperature records.
- Ensure staff are trained and certified in food safety and handling.
Accounts & Licensing:
- Manage accounts including Amazon, Spotify, Veolia, Ecotricity, CCTV, and security gates.
- Handle credit accounts and process invoices monthly.
- Maintain and oversee alcohol licensing.
Shop Development & Customer Engagement:
- Enhance deli/café offerings and drive new business initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze customer buying habits to optimize product selection and profitability.
- Manage social media presence and marketing efforts.
Events Management
The events side of the role is evolving but requirements could include:
Public Events & Barn Development:
- Organize and coordinate street food days and seasonal events.
- Develop the barn as a café/workshop venue.
- Plan and execute autumn/winter supper clubs.
- Maximize use venues for community engagement.
Private Events:
- Serve as the primary contact for private events at the barn.
- Manage client relations, curate event experiences, and oversee catering and staffing.
- Develop drink packages and maintain strong supplier relationships.
Staff & Operational Management
- Manage shop and kitchen staff, ensuring smooth daily operations.
- Oversee hiring, training, and seasonal staffing adjustments.
- Organize weekly and seasonal rotas, ensuring appropriate labor coverage.
- Maintain cleanliness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Conduct regular team meetings and coordinate with senior management.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
- Previous experience managing a retail shop (MUST HAVE).
- Familiarity with EPOS systems and stock management.
- Barista skills and experience (MUST HAVE).
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Passion for food and the farm-to-table ethos.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and email management.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
- Physically fit and able to handle manual tasks
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Preferred:
- Experience in event planning and hospitality.
- Social media marketing experience.

Pay: £28,000.00-£36,000.00 per year
