Job description

Are you passionate about baking real bread? Do you dream of being in an empowering workplace, set up to benefit the workers who run it and to support their local community? Then we want to hear from you!

We are excited to be recruiting for a part-time Co-op Member to join our Baking Team for 21-32 hours/week within our well-established workers’ co-op. We specialise in handmade sourdough breads, but are constantly developing our product offering to support our increasing retail offer.

This is a fast-paced and physically demanding role – but a rewarding one too. We’re looking for someone who is really passionate about and committed to making standout baked goods and to working well in a great team of people. The role will involve working in all areas of the bakery – mixing, shaping/bench shifts and oven shifts.

We are looking for someone excited about and confident running educational classes to help us expand our work with our community and build our range of classes. Our classes run on Saturdays, so some weekend availability is required.

We are a small team of Bakers and are looking for someone who is conscientious and well-organised, able to manage their time well and work to schedule, be flexible, responsive and positive, who is prepared to work hard, and have fun along the way!

You will join as a probationary member of Leeds Bread Co-op, working towards membership of the Co-op and participation in the overall management and directorship of the co-op. We are looking for an individual who is driven and enthusiastic to be an active member in our worker co-op, participating in collective decision making with fellow Co-op Members and getting involved in the bigger decisions of the business!

We are looking to fill a Baking Team Member part-time position of 21-32 hours per week (for a permanent contract (subject to a 9 month probationary period).

We offer:

  • a competitive salary – Leeds Bread Co-op has a flat wage structure where everyone is paid the same rate of £26208.00 pro rata / £12.60/hour, and this is not dependent on experience or negotiation.
  • opportunities to develop into other team roles (where available).
  • the space to share your passion of baking and it’s benefits through the development and delivery of our education and community activities.
  • the opportunity for input into the continued development of the co-op for the benefit of the members and our local community.

Employee Benefits

  • Enhanced holiday entitlement of 6.2 weeks per year / 31 days pro rata (3 days more than statutory minimum).
  • Access to independent and confidential advice line service through Mindful Employer Plus.
  • 40% discount on LBC products.
  • 20% discount on other retail products.
  • Free loaf of bread per week.
  • Use of our van twice per year for personal purposes.
  • Access to wholesale / cost price pre-ordered personal goods from our suppliers (such as Suma and That Old Chestnut).
  • Refreshments provided on shift – including great coffee and endless toast/snacks
  • minimum 3% employer pension contribution

We are recruiting for individuals ready and available to start as soon as possible.
